Taglit Birthright Israel Hillel Trip
For the past two years, UB has sent over 200 students to Israel for FREE on Taglit - Birthright Israel: Hillel trips! This free trip to Israel is based on the premise that a Jewish Journey to Israel is every Jew’s birthright.
Welcome Back BBQ
Each year we welcome hundreds of new and returning students to the UB campus at our annual fall BBQ.
FYSH (First Year Students of Hillel)
The FYSH program is designed to help ease the incoming students’ transition to UB. It also helps Jewish students get involved in Jewish life on campus. Big Fish, upperclassmen, act as mentors providing FYSH with information about the Jewish community at UB and campus life in general.
Holiday Celebrations
Jewish holidays that occur while school is in session will be celebrated. Whether it’s the High Holidays, Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Tu B’Shvat, Purim, Passover, Lag B’Omer, Yom Ha’Shoah, Yom Ha’atzmaut, or Shavuot, Hillel will provide meaningful and creative ways to be involved.
Jewish Greek Council (JGC)
Hillel’s Jewish Greek Council provides opportunities for the many Jewish students involved in fraternities or sororities on campus to take a lead in Jewish programming. The JGC oversees all programs involving Greek students including our annual “Greek Shabbat”. Partnering with Greek houses on campus helps us to carry out our mission to create a dynamic, diverse, creative and caring Jewish community on the UB campus.
Sports and Intramurals
We welcome participants of all skill levels to participate in sports through Hillel of Buffalo. At UB there are many ways to get involved. You can join a Hillel of Buffalo intramural team, play a pick-up game, or participate in special sports events. Some sports events are planned in order to raise money for various organizations and causes.
Tzedek (Social Action/Community Service)
Social action and community service help to serve our mission of creating community and making the world a better place for all. Hillel of Buffalo's new initiative, Chai Line(Life Line), provides community service to the UB campus and to organizations throughout Western New York. Past events have included food and clothing drives, working with Habitat for Humanity, participating in Alternative Spring Break to New Orleans and in “Gift of Life”, the bone marrow registry.
Israel Week
Hillel hosts a week long celebration of all aspects of Israeli life and culture across the entire campus.
Holocaust Commemoration
Educational programs and a community commemoration are held to educate the campus community and honor those who perished in the Holocaust as well as the Righteous Gentiles.
Shabbat 360
Hillel of Buffalo hosts this special and spirited Shabbat which includes the campus and greater Buffalo community.
Upstate New York Hillels
Hillel of Buffalo is one of many Hillels in the upstate NY area. We join students from SUNY Albany, SUNY Binghamton, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Cortland, University of Rochester, Cornell, Ithaca College, Hamilton and Colgate, and Syracuse University for region-wide programs throughout the year.
